In the glass, the 2015 Elivette has a beautiful deep ruby color. The bouquet opens with an array of dark and red fruits – cassis, blackberry, cherry and mission fig. The primary fruits are complemented by garrigue, toffee, and allspice. The entry is broad and round, showing signature elegance and polished structure up front. The concentration of the 2015 vintage shows through with pronounced density and power across the mid-palate. The weight is balanced by considerable freshness and life that bring the wine through the finish and help it linger on the palate for several minutes. The fine, supple tannins are approachable now after decanting, and will continue to develop for at least another two decades.

Additional Notes

2015 was one of the earliest vintages ever at Spring Mountain, and more similar to 2014 than the bigger, more structural 2013 vintage. In general, quality was very good across the varieties, and the resulting wines show a great balance between freshness and power. From a growing perspective, the 2015 vintage was marked most significantly by cold and wet weather during set, followed by a warm, dry ripening season. Several years of drought combined with challenging weather during fruit-set meant the plants were destined to produce a small, but excellent quality crop. In general, we observed very small berries and loose clusters that lead to even ripening and intensely concentrated wines. Harvest for the red Bordeaux varieties began on September 4th and continued through October 15th.
