A concentrated garnet-red color indicates this wine's mountain origin. Spiced apple and cola aromas mingle with blueberry, ripe plum and black cherry fruit. The attack is rich and bold, again expressing characteristics of ‘place.’ Intense mountain fruit concentration, velvety texture, soft chewy tannins and bright acidity balance the wine and suggest longevity. Echoing the plumy fruit are overlays of cocoa and toast. The finish lingers with silky, mouthwatering nuance.

Winemaker’s Comments

We used Pommard Clones 5 and 115 from six acres in our La Perla Vineyard, planted at 1550' elevation.

Additional Notes

The 2007 vintage began with a warm winter and dry spring that gave us only 50% of our normal rainfall. Budbreak occurred in early to mid-March, more than a month earlier than 2006. Bloom took place in mid-April. Summer temperatures were moderate with no heat spikes until mid-August. Harvest began on August 28th. The 2007 vintage marks the first year of what we now call a drought in Napa Valley. The positive result of less rainfall is reflected in the concentration of aromas and flavors in wines from this acclaimed vintage.
