Structure, balance, and acidity, all of which are hallmarks of great Spring Mountain Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon, are on display in this aged wine. Expressive aromas of dusty cherry, sour plum, and tobacco spice evolve with time into camphor and sandalwood. Notes of cedar and cigar box round out the complex nose. The palate shows juniper, cranberry, and Bing cherry along with subtle hints of bay leaf. Savory notes of forest floor, cedar and an herbaceous earthiness add to this intriguing wine. Time has been good to this wine and allowed the structure to evolve with moderate tannins and weight. The wine is in a perfect drinking window now and should remain in this window for the next few years. This is an aged wine and requires time after opening to allow the wine to breathe and open. An ah-so or Durand is recommended for removing the cork.

The 1992 growing season was a roller coaster of temperatures and worries, but despite the concern, overall quality and quantity were good. Spring brought an early budbreak and cooler than normal weather to the estate. The cool weather along with a late rain in June created some concern, however warm and ideal conditions followed throughout the summer. High temperatures in August caused the white harvest to start quickly, but cooler and more moderate conditions followed, allowing an even ripening for the red varieties.
